Event Type

Let’s explore two waterfalls near each other in North Carolina east of Mt. Mitchell.  Fall color should be peak but the water flow might be less if a dry spell.

Roaring Fork Creek Falls is long cascade dropping about 50’.  It is reached on USFS Trail #195, a short 2/3rd mile hike on an old Forest Service road.  My ulterior motive to find GC15F, the oldest traditional geocache in North Carolina hidden in January 2001.

Roughly ten-minute drive away, Setrock Creek Falls is a 75’ tiered cascade reached on USFS Trail #197 which is a 0.5-mile gravel path.  We’ll have lunch at the falls.

Let’s leave the Colonial Heights Ingles parking lot by 8:00am (sunrise is 7:30am) for just under two-hour drive. Expectations for return time is  mid-afternoon, say 3:00pm.  Please call/text/e-mail the hike leader to know headcount or if last-minute changes.
