Rating:  Roughly 4-4.5 mile round trip with 600’ elevation change and one stream crossing

Our gathering point is at the park (364 Laurel Run Park Rd, Church Hill, TN 37642) back with the shelters at the trailhead at 9 AM.  This hike will first enjoy the new footbridge over Laurel Run built as an Eagle Scout project by Nathan Michalik of BSA Troop 48 (news report).  The group can make a choice on whether to take a steep loop up to Canebrake Mountain Overlook for a nice view of the river valley or just proceed up Laurel Run Trail with one stream crossing to see the low waterfall and abandoned homesteads.  Bring a hiking stick, drinking water, snacks, bug repellent, and water shoes or sandals for the creek crossing.  Plan to be back to the parking lot by noon.
