""I can see for miles miles miles..."" is a favorite goal in the Appalachian Mountains. This category is for trails that get you out of the "green tunnel" and offers impressive overlooks of valleys and ridgelines.

The best time to enjoy the high ridgeline hikes may not be summer - as leaves block the views, but late fall or early spring.

WARNING!!! Please be careful around overlooks as some can be near cliff edges, thus falling is possible.
Do not climb rocks around the overlooks as they can been loose.

Remember to bring clothing layers when hiking in the highlands as the temperature may drop more than you expect - and more wind on the exposed trail. A hiking stick or trekking poles can be a great use to protect shock to knees and ankle joints.
