Shelter:Mountaineer Falls
Description
The newest shelter on the TEHCC section of the Appalachian Trail. Located near its name-sake Mountaineer Falls. A classic wooden two-story barn built in the 1970s to meet the needs of a local farm, it was later converted to a shelter and renovated in the 1990s. The barn comfortably accommodates up to 30 people and is the only TEHCC shelter with a privy.
Location
Located between Elk River and Walnut Mountain Road; elevation 3200 feet. The shelter is 0.1 miles off the A.T. on a blue-blazed side trail. In the Cherokee National Forest, Watauga Ranger District. Located on the US19E to Dennis Cove Rd section.

No privies. Disposal location of gray water should be made away and down hill from the water source.
