Description
Note! Shelter is closed due to bear activity. Please continue hiking through this area without stopping. No preparation or consumption of food or overnight stays allowed. This closure is effective until December 1, 2015.
Three-sided with open front and wooden sleeping platform.
Location
On the shore of Watauga Lake between Watauga Dam Road and US321. The shelter is 50 yards uphill off the AT on a blue-blazed side trail.
Water
Return on blue-blazed trail to find stream crossing AT.
Maintenance History
- Mar 2011: Bear pole installed by Eagle Scout Seth Douthat.
- 2007: Installed gutter on back and stained outside of shelter
- Mar 1997: New steel roofing was placed over the existing shingles.
- 1980: Built by US Forest Service.
