Gentry Falls, sometimes called Gentry Creek Falls, is one of Northeast Tennessee's more unusual and lesser-known waterfalls. There are two drops, each about 35' high, in a rocky gorge with prolific spring wildflowers. Also beautiful in the fall with great foliage, it is more challenging in the spring with about 15 creek crossings in the 2.3 mile walk (each way) to the falls. Formerly there were a few bridges as indicated in the TEHCC Trail Wiki, but they are all gone. Fortunately the creek is not wide and is easy to wade unless the water is REALLY high, in which case we will go somewhere else. It is also not at all a steep hike, and the kids might like splashing around in the creek. Everyone WILL get their feet wet though, so bring a change of shoes for the ride home (good hiking etiquette anyway). We'll meet in Colonial Heights in the parking lot between McDonald's and State of Franklin Bank at 8:30 on Saturday May 3. We'll go through Abingdon and Damascus, so there won't be a Johnson City meeting point. Bring lunch which we'll plan to have at the falls.
