| Trail Comment | Maple Arches Trail past the first beach has clearly not had any maintenance in recent times. I quit counting blowdowns after exceeding a couple dozen, clearing one. Most can be stepped over, but several require completely leaving the trail to pass around. An appropriately trained chainsaw sawyer will be needed. As a loop trail, the design is to first follow the shoreline and then return higher up the hillside. One collapsed section will need to be formally rerouted. |
| Hike Comment | Sunday morning’s goal was to tackle the long hiker/horse trail along the Cherokee Lake shore, with a stop planned to listen to morning worship and study which is not included in the hike duration. (One bar cell strength did drain the phone battery.) A quiet time before the Labor Day weekend boats were launched. |
