Trail Overview[edit]

Shorter access to the views up at the Humps.

How to get there[edit]

From Kingsport, TN:

  1. Head south on I-26.
  2. Take Exit 24 for US-321/TN-67 toward Elizabethton.
  3. Follow US-321 until it turns right at traffic light, then merges with US-19E heading south.
  4. Continue into North Carolina and enter the town of Elk Park.
  5. Turn right (south) at Winters or Maple Streets.
  6. Continue onto Brooks Shell Road which is a loop.
  7. Park in gravel lot at trailhead coordinates.

Route Description[edit]

The blue blazed trail has a tough start staying between private properties and avoiding briars. It is more established and marked once it crosses the very small drainage for the second time. Primarily a horse trail which had signs of maintenance to secure the tread. Part of the trail has been bulldozed for unknown construction on a lower part of the ridge line.

Typical Conditions[edit]

Fees, Permits, etc.[edit]

No fees or restrictions.

After the Hike[edit]

Misc. Information[edit]

Conclusion is that there is an Elk Park Trail, but it is being lost to development around the trailhead and on the lower ridge.
