Trail Overview[edit]
Shorter access to the views up at the Humps.
How to get there[edit]
From Kingsport, TN:
- Head south on I-26.
- Take Exit 24 for US-321/TN-67 toward Elizabethton.
- Follow US-321 until it turns right at traffic light, then merges with US-19E heading south.
- Continue into North Carolina and enter the town of Elk Park.
- Turn right (south) at Winters or Maple Streets.
- Continue onto Brooks Shell Road which is a loop.
- Park in gravel lot at trailhead coordinates.
Route Description[edit]
The blue blazed trail has a tough start staying between private properties and avoiding briars. It is more established and marked once it crosses the very small drainage for the second time. Primarily a horse trail which had signs of maintenance to secure the tread. Part of the trail has been bulldozed for unknown construction on a lower part of the ridge line.
Typical Conditions[edit]
Fees, Permits, etc.[edit]
No fees or restrictions.
After the Hike[edit]
Misc. Information[edit]
Conclusion is that there is an Elk Park Trail, but it is being lost to development around the trailhead and on the lower ridge.
