From Kingsport, TN:

#Take Exit 24 for US-321/TN-67 toward Elizabethton.
#Follow US-321 until it turns right at traffic light, then merges with US-19E heading south.
#Continue into North Carolina and enter the town of Elk Park.
#Turn right (south) at Winters or Maple Streets.
#Continue onto Brooks Shell Road which is a loop.
#Park in gravel lot at trailhead coordinates.

The blue blazed trail has a tough start staying between private properties and avoiding briars. It is more

established and marked once it crosses the very small drainage for the second time.  Primarily a horse trail which had signs of maintenance to secure the tread. Part of the trail has been bulldozed for unknown construction on a lower part of the ridge line.

Conclusion is that there is an Elk Park Trail, but it is being lost to development around the trailhead and on the lower ridge.
