Things We are/I am working on and thinking about
Here we hope to create a place to find out about the trails within our area. What's our area? As far as the visitors to our site are willing to document. Here we hope to document public trails and parks centering on Kingsport.

<h1 style="display:inline-block;margin-top:.1em; text-align:left; margin-bottom:.2em; border-bottom:0; font-weight:bold;">We need your help!</h1>
*Current efforts
Please, jump right in. Hit edit, type, save the page. With all changes logged and if needed easily reverted, there is no risk of "screwing it up." Help can range anywhere from contacting webmaster@tehcc.org and telling me something we got wrong, to diving in deep and doing heavy page editing. We need all levels of help for this to work best for all of us.
**Conversion from googlemap to display_map extension - most done, need to ferret out the rest. Since I can't search for it I've been using the list of oldest last edits.
**Adding "park" parameter to trail Infoboxes. This allows wiki functions to easily find/list all trails within a park. Currently conflicted on Warriors Path State Park and its Mountain Bike Trail system. Should they be two separate "parks" or one park? Both? Question is how we want it to show up on the park's page of trails. Separate or all as one? A separate optional parameter of "group" - but how would the auto trails list work? All trails without a group or park, all parks and groups? Can that be done?
**As they're found, start marking trail pages that need cleanup if you don't have the time when you see it. So far I have created :Category:No Trail KML and :Category:Stub. I've thought about, needs pictures, better map pins, description details, etc...
**Create a hike log concept so users can add hike logs to their user page and it can automatically show a table of hikes, total miles hiked, and a map of locations hiked

*Someday/Maybe - Things to discuss
* Current work
**Start a "trail routes" or "trail plan" page type to create suggested trip plans. Use the new semantic wiki to be able to easily find and link on park pages separate from the trails list (prime culprit is Bays Mountain which has many trails only accessible from other trails)
** Reviewing pages to add new "trail page needs" template
**Create a standard Parks page (i.e. separate from trails category and Infobox)? Something as many are using the trail Infobox which I think messes things up for the semantic queries.
* Ongoing
**Cleanup categories - do we need the specified category if the semantic property assignments already do that?
** Updating after hikes
**Setup GPS (GPX?) waypoint and track downloads. Need to investigate options with new display_map extension
** Tweaking pages as needed (eventually based on needs list)
**Run Special Pages->Unused Files to find unreferenced files. Delete or add as appropriate. Ones used solely for embedded Google Maps don't show as used, add to page anyway to get it off the list (to make finding real problems easier) and make finding the pictures easier
* Ideas on deck
**Run Special Pages->Broken links and fix problems found
** Create trail search system (including needs searching)
**Remove prefixes from trails of systems/parks - semantic wiki easily connects them, don't need prefix anymore and it messes with the page name.
** Create park list that details number of trails and miles of trails for each park
**Start listing and reviewing campgrounds/campsites? - Mostly for my/Tim's interest. I've started my own list and I thought why not to share.
** Create dynamic site map of trails and parks
**Trail Infobox updates
** Create map balloon template to list basic information on site map of trails and parks
***Modify trail infobox to have distance from Kingsport, Johnson City, and Bristol - this would allow the automatic trail list to have it
** Better tag trails for use (e.g. foot, bike, atv,...) and features (e.g. overlook, waterfall, history,...)
***Add coordinates for parking and trail head, one line, trail type (out and back vs loop), include terminus coordinates if appropriate
** Have park pages also list hike plans nearby
***Modify to hide unused fields - Park done, which others?
** Have trail pages list "trails nearby", maybe within 5mi radius?
***Remove nearest medical?
** Create a trail template and form to make casual editing easier
***Investigate how "trail use" would best work with semantic wiki so we can include it on trails lists (park and system)
** Figure out how to easily get KMLs and possibly waypoints out of the wiki and into phones/handhelds
***Remove use of custom coordinate extension and just use semantic features, also convert to lat,lon format
** Create elegant way to subgroup trails (Warriors Path Bike Trails only example so far)
***Make it more units tolerant, instead of forced mi/hr etc, allow page entry of anything which the site will interpret as needed
** Create a hike plan infobox
***Clear up "Distance" field - I propose for Out-n-back and segments, it's the one-way length, loops would be full trip. This seems consistent with most hike guides
** Figure out a way to easily add "trip reports" through form
**Create Park Trail template - should be simple #ask query referencing PAGENAME
** Have AT sections pull in recent maintenance
**Modify trails list and trails map templates to automatically get it using #ask query
** Cleanup non-trail/park pages for layout and organization
***How to only get parks and trails with no parks?...
** Figure out a way that a park page, if we don't create the individual trail pages, could still return in a query number of trails and miles of trail
**Return the Talk tab to its original/real name and give us a spot to actually "talk" about the trail and what is needed to improve the page. Trip reports then their own page (one for each report or one for all reports on a trail?) or as a subobject of a user page. Then use #ask query to list them on the trail page. Trail page could list last X trip reports in descending date.
** Figure out a way that KML's could easily be added
**Move map pins and details to semantic properties and use semantic maps to list them? This would allow easier listing elsewhere. Is it a problem that needs this change?
** Write a "how to GPS log and create KML" page
**Create a park template/style/IB something...
** Can we elegantly tag pins and query them with desired icon (show "park" pins on trail pages)
**Implement use of forms for hike logging, trail pages(?), other?
** Have queries return icons for tagged use/features
** Fix/update Shelter IB
** Take shelters out of Shelter namespace
** Trail rating system
** Pair this list into 'Planned' and 'Ideas'
** Better separate "Allowed Activities" (e.g. hiking, dogs, ATV, horses) from "Attractions" (e.g. waterfalls, vistas, highpoint)
** Update trails map for filtering on tagged keywords, park, features, etc. See example.
