Great hike to the antenna. Uphill for sure. Great lookout over Downtown Kingsport a little off the trail when you get to the top.  +
We had a wonderful morning hiking in Bays Mountain Park with a good group of people from the club.  +
Hiked from the bike lot on lake road trail then went up azalea all the way to the fire tower. There was snow on the edges of the trail.  +
B
Hike was a beginner backpacking for scouts (and soon to be scouts) of Troop 48.  +
Purpose was to map Camp Bark Lake Trail. Very quiet, except for a few fisherman and kayakers, since the campground is closed for water system repair. Rhododendron in bloom.  +
Mount Mitchell to Mount Craig and back.  +
Dog daybreak hike!  +
Daybreak with the dogs (got rained out on Saturday)  +
Family hike on a beautiful day. Also logged this hike for an update GPS track, waypoints, and photos.  +
Wonderful hike with great views, and features.  +

Hike while on a camp out with Troop 48. Went up to scramble on the rocks, collected plentiful blueberries, saw plenty of ponies, then finished with a loop on Cabin Creek Trail.  +
Great hike once again. We did this as a point to point hike so cut the distance in half. The descent from Big Hump to 19E is still deceivingly tough at the end of the hike.  +
Purpose of today’s hike was exploring a new trail in the region while collecting data to create a TEHCC Trail Wiki page to inform others considering this route. Virginia Department of Forestry had confirmed the seasonal gates were open during the week prior, thus started just after sunrise at the upper parking area to beat the predicted afternoon heat and thundershowers. The weather forecast deterred folks from visiting The Channels as only four cars were reported to be at the Hayters Gap parking while I saw no one on this route until driving back down. I would consider this hike again, but more likely when the rhododendron is in bloom or trees have their fall colors.  +
Parked at the upper gate at sunrise to beat the heat. Uphill purpose was to repaint the red blazes. More of the rhododendron on the side trail to The Channels was lopped until my must-leave time was reached. Worked on the growth in a couple places during return, but pushed on as family does not believe I return from personal hikes within two hours of my estimated time. Arrived home only 15 minutes late!  +
8 miles on the AT. Weather was perfect! Leaf color change was still happening and was beautiful. We met some great people at the overlook, even a lady from Kingsport! Small world!  +
Nice clear day to for this short but intense hike. Very windy at the top. You can walk the ridgeline in both directions coming off the trail at the top. Amazing views, well worth the climb. Property owner is a wealth of information. He is an experienced hiker and happy to talk to you about local hikes. His dog's name is Pup-O and he likes vanilla wafers.  +

The hike started at daybreak to beat summertime heat and afternoon thundershowers (both successfully). Although the region has had some heavy rain, the dirt path was not muddy nor any runoff streams were seen flowing. The forest roads were mostly open thus able to hike at a quick pace. A few sections have tall weeds plus poison ivy and stinging nettles were also encountered. Fall or winter might be better seasons as there are no valley views with the thick leaves on hardwood trees. I picked up very little trash, which was great. I did make an incorrect choice at one intersection to end up above Kane Gap with a bit more mileage. AT&T cell phone service was good all along the hike. The interpretive center is open during the pandemic if wearing a face mask and keeping your space. Overall, this hike would be a good one to walk the dogs.  +
Weekend Daybreak Dog Hike.  +
Weekend dog hike  +
Birthday hike with my buddy. Triple logged with iOS Gaia, eTrex 10, and Forerunner 305  +
Out with the pups on a snowy morning.  +
New to the area, second family hike. Youngest hiker was 9, no issues. One Geocache along the trail, others in the immediate area.  +
Hiked from 321 to Watauga Lake Dam with the hiking club. This was a wonderful hike with the group. The weather was great and the views from the dam were wonderful.  +
Hiked with Teni Butler, Alex Lyttle, Rachel Stammen. Was a cool start to the hike but we got rained on with a lot of wind on the way back to the cars. Some sunshine in between the storm clouds dried us off a bit before getting back to the cars.  +
Hiked Dennis Cove to Watauga Lake on Apr. 24th with Jonathan Shumaker and Teni Butler. Hiked Watuaga to Wilbur Dam Rd on Apr. 30th with Ryan Haas and Mackenzie Manning.  +
We were able to log another 7.6 miles on the Appalachian trail last Saturday. Unfortunately we were caught in the rain just as we were crossing the dam on our return trip. Good times and lively conversation were had by all, and nobody died. Attendees, Jonathan Shumaker, Teni Butler, Alex Lyttle (leader), Rachel Stammen.  +
Teni Butler and Kyle Haas on the hike as well.  +
Weekend WPSP hike with dogs. This time with the family. Carrie went over the backbone hump while the rest went through the golf course to the trail. The cabin is now down. It appears due to the snow and not a final act of vandalism.  +
Took a little spur trail off to see if there was a connection to the mountain bike trails. Was great cool weather for a hike.  +
Enjoyed a lovely hike in the park with my family. I like this trail because of the diversity of things to see when linked up with Fall Creek loop.  +

This was an event that I organized through the Meetup group "East Tennessee Day Hikes/Peakbagging/Backpacking/Kayaking". It was an overnight backpack trip up Ewing Trail and across Ridge Trail to the Pinnacle. See trip vlog at https://youtu.be/h5me3y_XUrE. We stayed at Hensley Camp on Ridge Trail. There are a number of backcountry campsites, which you are required to stay in and require a free permit. The only other campsite I witnessed was at Gibson Gap. Hensley Camp was vastly superior; it is closest to the midpoint, has a potable water source at nearby Hensley Settlement, and a large even grassy area for tents. All campsites have bear hang cables and you need to use them. I've never seen so much large bear scat!  +

Great short hike with a little snow cover.  +
Return to daybreak hike with the dogs  +
Took the cats out for a hike. We beat the rain on this Sunday morning.  +
This was a wonderful hike with the hiking club on a very warm day.  +
Took the cats out for a Sunday hike around the loop.  +
Was a nice cool short hike  +
Enjoyed a lovely hike in the park with my family. I like this trail because of the diversity of things to see when linked up with Devil's Backbone. Water was flowing great!  +
Was a great hike. Attendees were Noah Daugherty, Beth Bayens, Teni Butler, and Jonathan Shumaker.  +
Hiked Lakeside Trail clockwise to Hemlock Trail cutting across Lake Road to Fire Tower Trail. Return was down River Mountain Rd. to Feagins Gap, then left on Lake Road all the way back to Nature Center. Hot day but nice hike.  +
H
Great hike! Passed many people along the way up and back. Parking can get a little sparse as the day goes on. Parking area is not huge for Hawksbill.  +
Park hike event  +
Easy daybreak hikes for the old dogs!  +

Had a hike buddy. Old ladies needed the weekend to recoup.  +

Teni Butler, and Kyle Haas were on the hike. It was a great hike. We stopped for an early lunch up in the pine trees on top of Unaka Mt.  +
Hiked with Jonathan Shumaker and Teni Butler. Hike was well maintained and the rain held off for most of the hike!  +
Teni Butler, Kyle Haas, and Alex Lyttle attended the hike. It was a great cool day.  +
Hiked the Iron Mountain to Hughes Gap portion on March 13th. Hiked Hughes Gap to Carver's Gap on March 20th.  +
Hike started just after 10am. Even in the first weekend in May, the parking lot at Carvers Gap is starting to fill up. It was an absolutely gorgeous morning/afternoon weather-wise. So perfect that I do not think a single hiker broke a sweat. The hike trekked through the fir forest along the AT for 2 miles, past the Roan High Knob AT shelter and the site/remains of the Cloudland hotel. About 1 mile in, there was a recently downed tree across the trail that involved some climbing over. We passed several section or thru hikers on the trail. After 2 miles on the AT, we continued on the Cloudland Trail for another mile to enjoy the Roan High Knob Bluff overlook all to ourselves for a great rest break and lunch. There was a neat splintered tree from a very recent lightening strike on the Cloudland Trail section. Then we hiked back the way we came, for a round-trip mileage of approx. 6.9 miles (~4.5 total miles on the AT). Gary Bond attended (a new member and previous thru hiker) and was a great companion for the trip with myself and my wife, Jackie.  +
Teni Butler hiked as well. Only hiked to Hughes Gap.  +

Second of two trails to map for trail wiki for a quick workout.  +

Instead of shuttling for a couple of hours I hiked back to my car after backing packing with the scouts  +
Lake and creaks were all looking good.  +
This was helping control points along the trail for the Moonlight Hike for FunFest. Attendees were Vic Hasler, Alex Lyttle, Jacob Lustik, and Jonathan Shumaker.  +
Teni and I went with Josh. Was a nice afternoon hike.  +
Trail was in good condition considering the snow. No problems navigating to the falls and back  +
Enjoyed a tune-up hike before a longer hiking trip. Falls was running pretty well. Several people were swimming under the falls and they looked a little cold so we didn't join them.  +
Day hike to get my dog Louis used to wearing his new pack.  +
Second day of Troop 48 Beginner's Backpack. The kids and I took off early to ensure meeting a pre-arranged pick up.  +
A beautiful cool day for a hike. The recent rain and now made the falls very full. There were icicles near the falls and along the trail as well.  +
No problems, very few people on the trail. Nice peaceful walk  +
The falls and the overlook were both great to see. It was a cool morning and the trail and park did not have much traffic. Attending the hike were Jonathan Shumaker and Hanieh Niroomand.  +
The hike was to collect the GPS track to post on the Laurel Run Trail wiki page. However, I spent time on the first pass opening up the 0.9-mile loop path using a swing blade and loppers - shuttling the tools as I proceeded. The area was quiet to enjoy the view and forest, but the morning was rapidly getting hot.  +
Exploring the Clarks Creek area to expand the Trail Wiki while being out of house (since working from home). AllTrails lists a misnamed Pine Ridge Falls Trail that is a spur off Longarm Trail left right after the first creek crossing. The small plunge waterfall would be better designated for the Devil Fork stream.  +
Attempting to cover all purely hiking trails (white blaze/silver marker) in the park. Was unsuccessful in navigating this loop trail as ended up too quickly back at the Lost Road Trail sign off Maple Arch Trail. Decided to visit last trail to be back earlier.  +
M
Sunday morning’s goal was to tackle the long hiker/horse trail along the Cherokee Lake shore, with a stop planned to listen to morning worship and study which is not included in the hike duration. (One bar cell strength did drain the phone battery.) A quiet time before the Labor Day weekend boats were launched.  +
TEHCC hike. Only one show.  +
Early morning solo hike to enjoy the quiet - and beat the coming rain. Mountain laurel is in bloom at the trailhead. Falls were flowing as expected. Warning: On my way out, a tourist bus from Florida was heading to the parking lot - they will be in for a challenge.  +
N
Hiked with Teni Butler and Kyle Haas. This was a great hike up to Indian Grave Gap with Teni and Kyle. The views of the Nolichucky river and mountains were great. We took a spur trail up to some high rocks to get a view to the north and south.  +
Fourth trail explored this morning, which ended up being one of my favorites due to the path being in the best condition. Disappointed no information at wildlife viewing platform.  +
O
Third trek of the morning to pursue traditional geocaches while learning the park hiking trails.  +
Last day of Labor Day weekend to explore hiking trails in Panther Creek State Park. Started at sunrise to surprise multiple herds of white-tail deer along the loop trail. Path along the top ridge was enjoyable to walk, but lake views will be better when leaves are down. Saw one other couple going around in the reverse direction.  +
Was a great evening for a hike.  +
easy daybreak hike for the old dogs  +
Great morning walk with dogs and wife  +
Great birthday and family hike!  +
Pups enjoyed getting out for the first time in a few weeks  +
This was intended as an introductory hike and three newer people had committed and didn't show but it was okay because one of our new members Razvan Marinescu was able to attend this easier hike to test if his ankle had healed enough for the bigger hikes. We'll need to do this again in the future when we are sure to get some co-op's on site.  +

While planned as a TEHCC hike, invitation was also extended to BSA Troop 48 as an alternative outing since parking at Hayter Gap/VA80 for the scheduled hike to The Channels is restricted due to the pandemic. Five scouts took this opportunity to complete some basic skill learning which enjoying a hike along the Holston River. Geocaching was added as a feature for this trail since several are hidden along the path with a few found during the hike. Started out on a warm morning which grew hotter, thus the shade trees became more appreciated.  +
Second hike of the morning exploring trails in Panther Creek State Park. This path was the longest for the day, nearest to the first route, and had a good geocache along the way. Walked back down to Cherokee Lake for a second time.  +
R
Second half of the day of Hungry Mother Hiking.  +
Hike came in at 8.55 miles, 2442 ft of elevation. Trail condition was good, a few thorn bush stalks crossing the trail towards the top of the trail. No access issues. Attendees: Jacob Lustik  +
Weekend Daybreak Dog Hike.  +
Saturday dog hike. Came in from golf course and did wetlands and Meadow loops.  +
It was a family and Cub Scout pack 348 Webelos Den outing. Plans to return in the spring.  +
Pack 348 Den Webelos were out!  +
Early morning hike to begin checking out the trails in Panther Creek State Park. Picked this one first as reported to have the most elevation change thus tackle while fresh – and a good geocache along the way. Enjoyed a pretty sunrise over the lake during the cool morning.  +
Was a great day for a hike. We were mostly on the road so we had plenty of space to avoid some of the weeds that were starting to grow up around the edges of the path.  +
Trails were clear  +
Was a great hike. Tons of people out on the water. A sunny warm morning.  +
Last hiking trail taken during three sunny days spent in Panther Creek State Park. Disappointed in that no self-guided information was available at the trailhead kiosk but could represent a future opportunity to update and provide maybe from the park website to eliminate paper waste.  +
S
Last trail on first day exploring the hiking paths in Panther Creek SP. By midday this route was very busy as the nearby campers and locals were hitting the trails on a pleasant day.  +
Exploring the Clarks Creek area to expand the Trail Wiki. This route appears to be the main reason folks are visiting the former recreation area (now classified as general forest). A cloudy day with rain clouds moving north, thus only one other couple seen on the trail.  +
Saturday dog hike. Came in from golf course and did wetlands and Meadow loops.  +
