Nolichucky River and Erwin, TN

The AT meets the Nolichucky River at Chestoa Bridge. Downtown Erwin is approximately 2 miles from this point. Food, resupply, shuttles and lodging are available.

Railroad

Cross railroad just into the woods from crossing Chestoa Bridge.

Rafting Companies

Multiple rafting companies' Nolichucky River headquarters are along the river just before the AT starts to ascend out of the Gorge. Camping and lodging are available.

Jones Branch

Crossed several times before heading north towards Curley Maple Gap Shelter.

Curley Maple Gap Shelter

Curley Maple Gap Shelter (3070') is a concrete-block shelter built in 1961 by the United States Forest Service. Sleeps 6. Water is available just south of the shelter at the edge of the draw. Remnants of an old shelter, built by the CCC, is located just to the north.

Indian Grave Gap

The Trail crosses TN395/NC197 at the state line with FS230 going towards Beauty Spot. There is a small parking area along the north side of the road.
