DESCRIPTION:With goal of being off the trail before late summer heat or thu
 ndershowers arrive\, this hike starts as an easy jaunt on the three mile p
 ath along the Holston River in the Phipps Bend Industrial Park.  The adjo
 ining area has been designated a nature preserve with wetlands full of wat
 erfowl.   The hike will take it from end to end\, and then return on roa
 ds past the uncompleted nuclear structures to take a closer look while cut
 ting the distance.  Families are welcomed on this flat walk\, and kids co
 uld ride bicycles as an option.  Bring a day pack with water plus sunscre
 en and/or a good hat as there isn’t much shade.  Meet at the parking ar
 ea in Phipps Bend at the end of Schmiede Road\, Surgoinsville by 9 am.  W
 e’ll finish up by lunch.
