SUMMARY:Carver's Gap to Roan High Knob (moderate\, 4.5 miles)
DESCRIPTION:This hike follows the AT west from Carver's Gap\, ascending Roa
 n High Knob through a lush\, green\, shady forest filled with balsam fir t
 rees\, fern\, and moss. The hike passes the Roan High Knob shelter\, the h
 ighest-elevation shelter on the entire Appalachian Trail. And\, passing th
 e summit\, the hike veers off the AT to visit a high-elevation overlook\, 
 catching exceptional views near the former site of the historic Cloudland 
 Hotel.\n\nIf desired this hike can be extended for 2.4 miles to Roan High 
 Bluff or in the opposite direction from the trailhead to Round Bald/Grassy
  Ridge Bald/Jane Bald for more mileage.\n\nWeather permitting. Dogs are we
 lcome on leash. Recommended to bring plenty of water and snacks!
