Friday Hikers: Buffalo Mountain Park, February 4, 2011

Collins Chew reporting

The cool overcast day was quite satisfactory for our hike around Buffalo Mountain Park today. Distant views were quite adequate with interesting cloud banks pouring over the North Carolina State Line ridges. The road to the picnic area was gated so we opted to walk in the opposite direction from which we usually go. This proved to be challenging as we misinterpreted a sign and followed the red USFS boundary along the ridge line and added close to a mile and 400 feet of climbing by accident. (This is a way to Pinnacle Mountain and Jerry asked how to go - but it would be a stretch to say I was showing him the way.) We probably walked about 6 miles. The slight rain after lunch was no problem. Hikers were: Olin Babb, Bob Harvey, Heather Jacob, Jerry Jones, Jerry Mayne, first-timer Lana Scott, Susie Seiler, and Collins Chew.
