Trail Overview[edit]
How to get there[edit]
Route Description[edit]
(Trail South > North)
Nolichucky River and Erwin, TN[edit]
The AT meets the Nolichucky River at Chestoa Bridge. Downtown Erwin is approximately 2 miles from this point. Food, resupply, shuttles and lodging are available.
Railroad[edit]
Cross railroad just into the woods from crossing Chestoa Bridge.
Rafting Companies[edit]
Multiple rafting companies' Nolichucky River headquarters are along the river just before the AT starts to ascend out of the Gorge. Camping and lodging are available.
Jones Branch[edit]
Crossed several times before heading north towards Curley Maple Gap Shelter.
Curley Maple Gap Shelter[edit]
Curley Maple Gap Shelter is a concrete-block shelter built in 1961 by the United States Forest Service, then renovated in 2010 by the TN Eastman Hiking Club to expand the sleeping capacity to 12 with a second loft under a new roof.
Indian Grave Gap[edit]
The Trail crosses TN395/NC197 at the state line with FS230 going towards Beauty Spot. There is a small parking area along the north side of the road.
