Park Overview
Four loop trails along the shores of Fontana Lake. While open to hikers, better suited for mountain bikes and horses.
How to get there
From Johnson City, TN:
- Take I-26 to Asheville.
- Then I-40 west to the exit for US-74.
- Follow US-74 for 49 miles (past Bryson City).
- Turn right/west onto NC-28.
- Turn right/north into the Tsali Campground.
Route Description
The following trails are available to explore.

To share the trails, the following schedule has been implemented:
Thompson Loop Trail and Mouse Branch Loop Trail
- Hiking - seven days a week
- Horseback Riding - Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
- Mountain Biking - Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday
Tsali Horse Trail (Right Loop and Left Loop)
- Hiking - seven days a week
- Horseback Riding - Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday
- Mountain Biking - Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
Typical Conditions
Wide trails (8 ft or more) with limited change in elevation.
Fees, Permits, etc.
Mountain bikers and horse riders must pay a daily use fee.
