Trail Overview[edit]
Rails-to-Trail conversion of the former ET&WNC (“Tweetsie”) railroad right-of-way between Johnson City and Elizabethton offers an easy walk/bike ride.
How to get there[edit]
From Johnson City, TN:
- Take US-321 east to Elizabethton.
- Take left/north into Lions Field ballpark.
There are other access points, but this location is recommended for hikers until the overall path is better understood.
The parking at Lions Field in Elizabethton is a frequent site of car break ins and other vandalism. Obscure valuables in your car or consider other parking locations.
Route Description[edit]
Currently 4.5 miles of the overall ten planned are open between Sycamore Shoals State Park and Alabama Street in Johnson City.
Typical Conditions[edit]
Being a Rails-to-Trail path, the gradual tread is packed rock, called chat, thus easy walking.
Fees, Permits, etc.[edit]
