I feel this cleans things up for novices (not that we have many editing) and just ensures everything matches up well plus simplifies editing. The problem is that it appears that you prefer DMS coords which the GMap tag doesn't work with (so all trail pages with DMS lat/lon IB coords are now not working). I can change the template to have more variables for DMS lat/lon and DEG lat/lon, but that puts us almost back to where we were. Still a bit cleaner looking though. Thoughts? --WikiSysop 21:19, 22 May 2012 (MDT)

:OK. New extension added so that even though you enter DEG in the wiki it converts it to DMS on the page. It looks like you have a slightly different format, I'll see if I can tweak the calculations to match your old format. Hmmm, need to check what happens to pages already listed in DMS... Ugly, nothing works, no IB display, no GMap. The format that the extension generates appears to be Wikipedia's preferred format. Any particular reason for the format you were using? --WikiSysop 19:34, 23 May 2012 (MDT)

Tim, DMS format is what I am used to because of Geocaching/Waymarking. I believe it matches up bettter with topo maps which also use DMS. However, for the trail wiki I could be convinced to switch to decimal lat/lon to make the features work. Later, --Vhasler 05:29, 24 May 2012 (MDT)

I hiked Rogers Ridge Horse Trail today. The house you mention that you walk by, do you mean the one to the right on the peak when to the left is the Tri-State Knob? Your description seems to imply it's passed by while still in the forest of the ridge before the bald sections. If so, we saw no evidence of it. By the way, the house on the peak, while still standing has been effectively destroyed. Here's to hoping it's torn down one day. I also don't understand your final sentence in the Trail Description. We found the trail to be fairly well marked and nearly every portion clear where to continue. When was the hike that these updates were based on? Charlie and I suspected some rerouting may have occurred at some point in time. We clocked in 7.0 miles one way. When all descriptions said closer to 6.0. --Tim (talk) 23:12, 17 October 2015 (EDT)

Trail search alpha[edit]

Here it is, try it out... Special:RunQuery/Trail_Search. Let me know what you think. We need a lot more page updating to give all the trails the correct metadata to make this search work.
