Change of Date for Bluestone River Trip — New Date 6/5-7/2015

Because of tram problems Mt. Creek Lodge will not open until June 5th weekend. If you are holding reservation for May 22nd your reservation will automatically be transferred to June 5th. If you need to cancel and get a refund of your deposit call Pipestem State Park.

The water flow that late in the Spring may not be optimal. The 65 year average flow for that date is about 380 cfs. The minimum flow needed for the trip is about 250 cfs. If the flow on the Bluestone is too low or too high we will plan to do something on the New or Greenbrier River.

Bluestone River Trip Postponed

Reporting: Ed “Happy Hour Coordinator” Montgomery

Our trip leader just called and informed me that our upcoming Bluestone River trip will be postponed due to the Mountain Creek Lodge being closed because the tram is down. The tram is Swiss made and they are getting a part from across the pond. The trip has been moved to June 15-17, 2012. All lodging reservations have been moved. If you cannot attend at this time, please call the Pipestem lodge and cancel your room. Please respond to this note and let us know your status. This delay is going to put more pressure on us to have an even bigger HAPPY HOUR event. Stay tuned for details.

Note: If the Bluestone is running low, Terry will evaluate the New River (Class 2) and Greenbrier (Class 2) as alternatives.

33rd Anniversary Bluestone River Trip Notice

The 33rd annual Bluestone River Trip is scheduled for May 25-26, 2012. A block of six rooms have been reserved at the Mountain Creek Lodge and space is limited this year. Room reservations can be made by calling 1-800-CALLWVA and asking to be connected to the Pipestem Lodge. The block of rooms is under the Tennessee Eastman Hiking and Canoeing Club. Room rates are $87 per night plus tax.

Please call the trip leader, Terry Dougherty at 423-502-5177 to sign up for the river run. We normally paddle both days (Saturday and Sunday), but you can always tram your boat out to avoid paddling a second day. The river (Saturday paddle) is a very scenic 9 mile stretch that passes through a deep West Virginia gorge. It is mostly class II with a couple of borderline class III rapids. The first class III rapid can being easily portaged. The second day is mostly class I and suitable for families. Hope you can join for this great trip!

Bluestone River Trip, Class II-III, May 27-30

Leaders: Terry & Thresa Dougherty, 423- 502-5177

This is the 32nd year for the Bluestone Trip.  The trip this year is planned later than ever because the Pipestem State Park Mountain Creek Lodge does not open until Friday May 27, Memorial weekend with a 3-night minimum.  The cost is $97.44 with tax per night.  We could not reserve a block of rooms, so folks will need to call 304-466-1800 to make their own reservations.  With it being a holiday weekend, they probably need to call ASAP to get rooms.  Camping is available in the campground and reservations can be made as well.

We are planning on paddling Saturday and Sunday (optional).  The average flow for the May 30 timeframe is 518 CFS, so the water level could be really good.  Other activities include golfing, birding, horseback riding, hiking and biking.  A Saturday evening Happy Hour (Ed Montgomery coordinator) is planned and is always a fun event.  This is a special trip and we hope you can join us for the longest running TEHCC annual paddling trip!
