The HT-3, 4, and 5 tents are classic “scout” design—green
A-frame with aluminum poles—but larger. The
layout as shown in the below picture is for four people to sleep side-to-side or
as generally used three people end-to-end with some gear inside.
Only HT-5 has the optional vestibule to provide extra covered storage, such
as hiking boots.
The weight at nine to nine and one-half pounds means that these club tents
are generally seeing car camping use versus being hauled down the trail. For a
three to four person group, it is still less weight to use these larger tents
than to carry two six pound, two person tents. The load could be split up
between two or more packs (poles, stakes, and ground cover together, then tent,
fly, and vestibule as a bundle).
The Timberline design is quickly assembled into a free-standing tent. The
three-section aluminum poles are on shock cords, as is the center four-piece
span. There are two loose pole rods for the fly. The vestibule is held in place
with couple extra stakes.
If coming back from a sometimes normal scouting event (rain!), please call
Bldg 310 to arrange an extra day or two to hang or set up a tent to let it dry
out (even if just from a heavy morning dew!) Please also return the stakes
outside of the carrying bag as these are stored separately to avoid damage to
the tent.
