Milestones: SB6000

South Beyond 6000 is not an organized club as such, but rather an achievement.  The privilege of belonging is earned by climbing 40 of the highest and most outstanding peaks in the Southern United States.

All of the highest peaks in the Eastern United States are in the Southern Appalachians -- specifically in western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee (Mt. Washington, the 17th highest peak in the Eastern United States, is in New Hampshire).

The South Beyond 6000 program is jointly sponsored the Carolina Mountain Club and the Tennessee Eastman Hiking and Canoeing Club.  Detailed information about the South Beyond 6000 program is stored on the Carolina Mountain Club's web site.  Hikes listed on TEHCC’s schedule with the prefix SB6000 are members’ hikes toward achieving this milestone.

Highest mountain in eastern US: Mount Mitchell in western North Carolina along Blue Ridge Parkway
