Nice fairly short trail to a nice cascading falls, that in the winter can ice over very well.

Hike 0.6 miles up the Bullen Hollow Trail (blue blaze).  The Margarette Falls Trail (FS #189) is apparently the second blazed trail off of Bullen Hollow Trail (do not ford main creek). It takes the right fork of the creek and the falls are about 0.75 miles from Bullen Trail intersection with several fords on this trail.

Do not follow the yellow blazes as those are for a very steep off-road vehicle trail to the top of Camp Creek Bald.

Typical loop hike would be to take Mountain Trail up to Crest Trail out to the NE overlook to see the Cumberland Mountains, back along Crest Trail to the SW overlook for the Smokies and parts of Knoxville, and finally down West Overlook (former Turkey) Trail to the parking lot.  The reverse direction can also be taken. Some of the trails are very close to the nature preserve boundary, thus a private ATV path might be seen lower on the mountain.

Trail is very rough with lots of large boulders and a creek crossings. Pay attention or you'll miss the trail. Markers in several places are missing.
The access trails (West Overlook and Mountain) are steep, rocky/rooted, and badly eroded in places.  The lower third of the Mountain trail renovated almost a decade ago, thus decent path passing some large boulders. However, further up the climb is very strenuous.  The Crest trail follows mostly a jeep road, but also has spur routes onto private property. The overlooks have no railing, thus steep dropoffs.  Can be crowded on peak fall weekends.

Greeneville Hiking Club has an excellent description of the trail. [http://greenevillehikingclub.com/files/margarette%20falls.pdf] They also have an extension on this hike up to Bailey Falls, which is another 1/3rd of a mile, but involves a difficult wall climb to the right of Margarette Falls.
